Are you moved by the rich passionate tones of the cello? Do you notice the sadness and beauty a cello solo can bring, and how well a cello can complement a simple song, an ensemble, or even a band? Maybe you've always wanted to play the cello but thought it would be too difficult or didn't know where to begin.

I’ve been teaching from my home in the Willow Street area for about four years and love sharing the passion I have for this beautiful instrument.

As a child, I thrived on the challenge of practicing for my lessons and learning new songs, and joyfully discovered that I had an individual talent of my very own. As I adult, I now realize in a more complex way what a blessing and joy music is in my life. The privilege of playing with other musicians and expressing myself through my instrument is something I cherish.

I would love for you or your child to experience that too!

Cellists from public or private school may be interested in taking private lessons with me, as I can help them with any orchestra or band music they have during the year. Working one on one will help improve their technique in a way that does not come solely from group lessons. Using a combination of the Susuki Method and traditional teaching, my students begin to read music at an early stage, but I also put special emphases on teaching them to play by ear. This will be a great advantage to them in many areas down the road – especially if they pursue performing.

Many of my students are Christian homeschoolers, as I am, and I enjoy incorporating hymn arrangements and praise tunes along with their classical work at their request. They are already playing music for their churches and are involved in youth ensemble groups.

If you are interested in beginning lessons with me, I will be glad to provide you with one free trial lesson to give you time to determine if you would like to continue. I require that you bring a cello, bow, an empty notebook and Book 1 for Cello from Susuki. If you do not yet have a cello you can usually find them for rent at music stores. Preteens should generally begin on a three quarter size cello (3/4) and most adults should begin with a full size (or 4/4). People at the music store should be able to help you find the correct cello for your size/height. Playing the cello can begin a lifetime of expressing beauty and enjoyment!
